Description

University Indigenous Research Program (UIRP) – 2 Streams Now Available

  • University Indigenous Research Program – Stream 1 Connection Grant (UIRP-C)
    • UIRP-C provides funding for relationship-building activities with First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit communities. These relationships are essential prerequisites to undertaking research activities in collaboration with Indigenous communities and Peoples.
    • The UIRP-C does not support research activities. Researchers with existing relationships may apply to the UIRP-Project (UIRP-P) opportunity or external funding opportunities to carry out a research project with an Indigenous community.
    • Funding up to $20,000 for two years.  (PILOT: Funding Increased for the Fall 2025 Competition Only)

  • University Indigenous Research Program – Stream 2 Project Grant (UIRP-P)
    • UIRP-P provides funding for original, high quality research projects across all disciplines that may be a pre-requisite to long-term Tri-Agency support. Research for, with, and by Indigenous peoples is an important cross-cutting dimension of scholarship at UM.
    • Funding up to $35,000 for three years(PILOT: Funding Increased for the Fall 2025 Competition Only)
      • An additional $5,000 may be requested for knowledge mobilization activities with a particular emphasis on translating research results into the Indigenous language(s) appropriate to the partner community(ies).
