Discovery Grants

The Discovery Grants program supports ongoing programs of research with long-term goals rather than a single short-term project or collection of projects. These grants recognize the creativity and innovation that are at the heart of all research advances. Discovery Grants are typically five years in duration and are considered “grants in aid” of research, as they provide long-term operating funds and can facilitate access to funding from other programs but are not meant to support the full costs of a research program.

The NSERC Research Portal is used to apply for Discovery Grants and is separate from the CCV. You will need an account (login/password) for each of the NSERC CCV and the NSERC Research Portal. See quick link below for Research Portal and CCV login.

Notification of Intent (NOI): Researchers who plan to apply to the fall competition (November 1), must submit an NOI through the Research Portal (August 1).

Annual Deadlines:

• NSERC NOI Deadline (Required): 1 August annually (or the next business day)
• ORS Full Application Deadline: Ten business days prior to NSERC deadline, TBA
• NSERC Full Application Deadline: 1 November annually (or the next business day)
