Description

Alliance grants encourage university researchers to collaborate with partner organizations, which can be from the private, public, or not-for-profit sectors. These grants support research projects that will generate new knowledge and accelerate the application of research results to create benefits for Canada. There is no deadline, applications may be submitted at any time throughout the year.

Alliance Advantage:

  • Value: $20,000 per year (minimum annual request, not an average) to $1M per year
  • No limit on number of applications per year for applicant or partner
  • Cash match: all projects 2:1 (67%)

Alliance Society:

For Alliance projects focused on addressing a societal challenge (resulting in new NSE knowledge) with at least one partner recognized for cost-sharing (though they need not provide cash), requesting 100% of project costs from NSERC.

Projects with this type of focus can necessitate a larger share of costs covered by NSERC, but this must be specifically justified in the application. In addition to the regular Alliance application materials, applicants must complete the 3-page PIVP - Public Impact Value Proposition - which is reviewed by committee. If they approve it, the application proceeds to external peer review evaluation (or is considered unfunded).

  • Value: $20,000 per year (minimum; not an average) to $1M per year.
  • Cash match: 100% - This option does not require matching funds if your partners are exclusively not-for-profit or public organizations.
  • Because of its additional considerations, please contact Andrea Craig or your Research Facilitator at an early stage before applying to this program.

Deadlines:

  • Internal Application Deadline: 14 business days prior to agency submission, by 4:30 pm CST
  • NSERC Application Deadline: Rolling deadline
