The Project

Project TitlePrenatal diabetes and offspring airway smooth muscle contractility in the context of asthma
Project DescriptionPrenatal exposure to diabetes is associated with a risk for asthma, but the mechanism for this association is unknown. One possibility is that prenatal diabetes (and hyperglycemia) increases the contractility of the airway smooth muscle, leading to an increase in airway narrowing and difficulty breathing. This project will use animal models, cell culture, induced pluripotent stem cells, and spatial RNA-sequencing to understand how prenatal diabetes influences the function of the airway smooth muscle in offspring lung tissue.
