Designing Materials to Revolutionize and Engineer our Future (DMREF)

This new NSERC-NSF collaborative research opportunity will support new collaborations between researchers in Canada and the United States through a flexible, streamlined application process. Proposals must include eligible applicants from both Canada and the US. Award values and project duration vary by NSF program; the Canadian team can request up to $100,000 per year for four years to support the costs of participation in the DMREF project.

The objective of this Call is to significantly accelerate materials and molecular discovery and the discovery-to-use timeline by building the fundamental knowledge base needed to advance the design and manufacturing of materials and molecules with social importance, with desirable properties or functionality by harnessing the power of data and computational tools in concert with experiment and theory. The collaborative opportunity, and the goals that can be supported through this initiative are fully described on the NSF website.

Submission Process for Canadian Researcher/Team Lead:

• Must be submitted through the NSERC Online System
• Uses the NSERC-DMREF application template (Proposal section)
• Submission is concurrent with the US team’s application to NSF

Submission Process for US Researcher/Team Lead:

• Full application due to NSF between 21 January – 4 February 2025
