Education, Human Rights and Social Justice in a Multicultural Society

A joint course, taught by U of M faculty members in Native Studies, Education and Sociology in conjunction with faculty members from Jadavpur University, Kolkata India focusing on comparing various aspects of social justice between the two countries. Students from Manitoba were joined by students from India to explore issues related to human rights, history, education and social inequality. The students participated in a variety of events including a guided tour of the Bannock Point Petroforms, meetings with executives from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, experts on genocide from the University of Alberta and teachings from Aboriginal elders.

A collaboration between researchers from the University of Manitoba and the Czech Republic resulted in a conference and book that examines various issues related to social inequality among the Roma in the Czech Republic and Aboriginal Peoples in Canada.
