Research Description
I do research on film adaptations of literature (and the strong emotions adaptations provoke in viewers) as well as on emotional responses to film more generally. My areas of expertise include film melodrama and the "weepie," why we watch films (and television shows) that make us cry, and the negative judgements often made about cultural productions and pop culture artifacts that affect us emotionally.

Public/Media (Non-Technical) Description
I teach and research the emotional content of films and the emotional responses we have to watching films and television. The history and significance of melodramatic and "weepie" films is an area of expertise. I also do research on film adaptations, star acting, and film performance.
